Family-Based Mental Health Services
Pressley Ridge believes that children should grow up in their families if at all possible. Even children with intense needs can be served in their homes with adequate community resources and familial support. The primary purpose of the Family-Based Mental Health program is to reduce the need for out-of-home placements (particularly, inpatient hospitalizations) for children with mental health diagnoses.
We always strive to find the family’s strengths and build upon them. The relationship we create with a family is the catalyst that begins the process of change. The program team views families as collaborators in identifying goals and in implementing various treatments. Families are active participants in every phase of treatment. In addition, the program seeks to help the child and family make safe connections to their community. The Family-Based program operates in six southwestern Pennsylvania counties (Allegheny, Beaver, Washington, Greene, Fayette, and Westmoreland).
The Family-Based Program is a comprehensive service. The program’s scope and family focus can eliminate or reduce the need for additional outside services such as crisis intervention, individual or family therapy, or children’s case management.
The services offered by the program include:
- Intensive Short-Term Therapy
- Crisis Intervention
- Case Management
- Therapeutic Intervention
- Family Support Services
- Family Unit Strength and Needs Assessment
- Flexible and individualized Treatment/Support
- Natural Support Network and Community Resource Development
Who Do We Serve?
The Family-Based Program serves children and adolescents who are seriously emotionally disturbed. In addition, our children are those who are at the highest risk of a psychiatric hospitalization or out-of-home placement.
- Children with mental health diagnoses from preschool age through adolescence
(up to age 21 if they are still in school)
- Child or adolescent that has a mental illness or emotional disturbance and is at risk of out-of-home placement, such as in-patient psychiatric care, residential, or foster care
- Child that is typically involved in one or more of the child-serving systems
Due to the program’s family focus, at least one adult member of the child’s household must agree to actively participate. The family must be available for frequent home visits.
There are no fees to families who participate in this service. This service is reimbursable by Medical Assistance, behavioral health managed care companies, and/or the county government.
Every attempt is made to serve children and their families as quickly as possible. Referrals are acted upon within 48 hours. In the event that a timely response cannot be made, the referral source (or family) will be directed to another in-county family-based program or an appropriate alternative service. It is always the family’s option to remain on the list until a team is available. Referral sources should contact Pressley Ridge Central Admissions at (888) 777-0820 to begin the process.
